We chatted with voice actress Danielle McRae, a huge fan of video games and anime. We chatted with her about her roles in the video game and anime industries such as: World of Warcraft, Dimension Drive, Skullgirls, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, and more.

You can learn more about Danielle and her work at her personal site here.

Hello, Danielle. How are you? Meow.

Hello there, I’m doing great! I hope you’re doing well!

Feeling purrtastic!

You’re a huge fan of video games and anime. Were they what inspired you to pursue a career in voice acting? If so, what specific titles made an impression on you, and were there any other influences outside of video games and anime?

While I enjoy both anime and video games, video games are what interested me the most in regards to the voice acting industry.

One game that inspired me pursue my voice over career was Metal Gear Solid. At that time, this game was the very first video game that featured voice acting.

You’ve voiced characters in popular games such as Karma the Enlightened One from “League of Legends”, Hagara the Stormbinder in “World of Worldcraft: Cataclysm”, and Painwheel from “Skullgirls Encore”. What did you enjoy when recording these characters?

I really enjoy losing myself in each character. Each character has a small part of me and I can relate to each character I play.

Did you work at the company’s location or remotely?

I record both location and remotely.

Which do you prefer when recording?

I prefer both.

One of your recent voice acting roles was Jackelyne Tywood in “Dimension Drive”. How did you get the role?

I auditioned for Jack a few times and I got the role. It was a huge honor since I was a fan of the game’s art style and music.

What’s the difference between working on a high-profile game title versus a smaller one?

I don’t notice a different at all. I usually go through the same process with recording for an indie game as I do with a AAA title.

We heard you’re pretty fond of “Overwatch”. Can you tell us about your love for this game?

Long story short because I can talk about this game forever, I love how this game has so many amazing and diverse characters with unique combat skills and abilities and there’s something for everyone. Also, this game is both very gorgeous visually and very addicting.

What are some of your other favorite video games?

Silent Hill series, Overwatch, Parasite Eve, The Final Fantasy series, Super Mario RPG, Tokyo Jungle, Metal Gear Solid and so much more!

Who are your favorite anime characters that you’ve recorded, and what made them memorable?

Probably Orba from Magi Season 2 because he reminds me of Rufio from Hook mostly and I grew very fond of this character during my session.

You’ve also lent your voice talent to audio dramas for “Star Trek” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. What makes audio dramas different than voicing characters from video games and animation?

There really isn’t much of a different when recording for audio dramas for me. Just a lot more dialogue than video games and animation.

Do you have a preference between doing video games, animation, and audio dramas?

I do enjoy all mediums but my heart will always belong to video games.

You recently did some voice directing for a video game for the first time. Which game was that for, and can you tell us about that experience?

I Co-directed for the upcoming survival horror game called “Remothered: Tormented Fathers” for about a year with the creator of the game, Chris Darril. It was a very different and amazing learning experience for me, especially when working with some of the voice talent.. I’d be happy to direct again in the hopeful future!

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself and what you are currently working on?

Remothered Tormented Fathers will be out at the end of this month, which I am very proud of. I also cohost a podcast with my BFF Erin Fitzgerald called “Waifus of Overwatch” where we interview the voice actors from the game, Overwatch. I also have a lot more shows and video games that I worked on last year that I hope will be coming out sometime this year!

Thank you Danielle for your time chatting with us and best of luck with your career!
