Believe it or not, the PlayStation 4 has been out for over 4 years now, 5 come November in North America. So how soon is it to say that Sony is already looking ahead to the PlayStation 5? Apparently it has already begun! Marcus Sellars, well known in the video game industry for revealing recent news of Black Ops 4 being this year’s Call of Duty, Diablo 3 coming to the Nintendo Switch, and last week’s Nintendo Direct’s reveal date . This time he’s uncovered that there’s development kits for the PlayStation 5 and have been sent to third-party developers. Apparently it’s not a joke.
First-party developers would have already had their hands on the hardware for some time before sending out to third-party teams. While development kits are generally built as a PC with similar specs to match what the console-would-be, there’s a potential we could see the PlayStation 5 come out 2019 or 2020. For now, it’s a rumor but definitely something to keep an eye on as months pass by.
If Sony wants to stand toe-to-toe on the Nintendo Switch sales, it’ll be interesting if this hardware will be a portable device too.
