Sonic Mania Plus Coming this Summer

New characters, encore mode, and more.

Sonic the Hedgehog has had great success with Sonic Mania and why stop there? During a panel at SXSW and they’ve announced a few cool things. One of them being Sonic Mania Plus. Based on last year’s Sonic Mania, this upgrade will have a few new additions plus a physical release.

Sonic Mania Plus will include two new characters: Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. These two first made their appearance in a classic arcade game titled SegaSonic the Hedgehog. The original arcade was released in Japan in 1993, never released outside the country. While Sonic Mania Plus isn’t SegaSonic the Hedgehog, you can at least play as these two characters. There will also be a new mode called “Encore Mode”, which has remixed versions of zones from Sonic Mania. As for competition, the game will expand the competition mode to support up to four players.

The game’s physical edition will include a 32 page art book and a reversible cover that’ll resembles the classic Sega Genesis box art. The physical edition will also include a holographic cover and is priced at $29.99 and will arrive sometime this summer for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

For those who already own the digital game of Sonic Mania will be able to get the new content via a DLC update, price not announced.
