We haven’t heard much about Dragon Quest Builders 2 since the announcement over the summer in 2017. In this week’s issue of Jump magazine, we are introduced to the game’s male and female protagonists, the official title of the game, the main enemy, and where the game will start at.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 title, “God of Destruction Malroth and the Empty Island” reveals that Malroth, the boss in Dragon Quest II, will be making his appearance in the game in a big role. A similar setup in the first Dragon Quest Builders where the game’s story was based on Dragon Quest I‘s Dragonlord, making it an interesting tie-in between the two games. It’ll be intriguing on how Malroth and the story of Dragon Quest II will tie into the new builders game, perhaps creating another “what if” scenario.
This is not the only time Malroth has made an appearance. In one of the spin-off Dragon Quest games, Malroth is in Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for the Nintendo Switch version, where the heroes in the game can duel against the ferocious monster.
The game protagonists were revealed in the latest Jump magazine, illustrated done by Akira Toriyama, famous for his character designs for Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and popular anime series, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. The game will place the protagonists on a deserted island where they must learn to build and save the world, like their ancestor from Dragon Quest Builders. As how Malroth will tie with the game’s hero, that is still unclear for now.
Fans from the series should know that Dragon Quest Builders 2 would bring over player’s save data from the first Dragon Quest Builders, although nothing is detailed on what exactly would transfer over, it’s great to see sequels utilize past series.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 will release on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, while not mentioned, it’s looking like a 2018 window.
