2h 29minMarvel Studios has been building up Avengers: Infinity War for ten years. It all started with Iron Man in 2008, and now this film brings loads of content and action to the big screen, making it a must-watch film for superhero fans, and for those who enjoy crossovers.
If you’ve been keeping up with Marvel films, then you should not have to worry about anything you missed at this point. For those who are relatively new to the Marvel Universe, we recommend these five films to watch before going out to watch the new Avengers film.
Not a Force to Reckon With
Thanos, a powerful villain in the Marvel Universe is in search of all five infinity stones. These stones are so powerful and destructive that nearly no one can physically hold a single stone. Thanos on the other hand is capable of holding not just one but multiple stones. Using a gauntlet to hold the stones, Thanos’ goal is to use these stones to bring “balance” to the cosmos, removing half of the universe’s population in a snap of a finger.
While the film doesn’t go too deep into Thanos and his past, it brings enough to the table to know who he is, and his involvement with his daughter, Gamora (one of the main characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy). Thanos’ screentime is enough to where he isn’t in your face in every scene. While the character design of Thanos isn’t the exact replica of the Marvel comics, Marvel Studios does an excellent job portraying him. Fans should not worry about how Thanos looks, even though the internet is enjoying poking fun at the chin.
The Black Order, Thanos’ uniquely powered army of four, makes up a lot of the fight scenes. Each member of the Black Order consists of enough power to give the Avengers a hard battle, and enough action to enjoy.
So Many Characters
You knew before going to watch Infinity War that the movie would be jammed packed with Marvel characters. How many? You’re looking at about 134 characters shoved into sharing a screen time of 2 ½ hours.
Many films showcasing at least three key characters tend to struggle with sharing screen time, however with Infinity War’s insane list of characters, there are a few characters who get not nearly as much time on screen when compared to larger roles such as Iron Man. Marvel has brought in many side characters, but there are some that never make an appearance, some from films that were released in the last year. A few of the characters from Thor: Ragnarok are nowhere to be found. However, one of the biggest glaring omissions has to be Hawkeye.
A few character roles in the film, the majority being from the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, are mostly there for comic relief, but as the movie continues, their roles expand with more action scenes. If audiences are expecting these characters to play those roles, you don’t need to worry as they will bring laughter to the other Avengers. Who doesn’t want to see a quarrel between Tony Stark and Doctor Strange? Or Thanos and Star Lord mocking each other?
Let’s Battle it Out Across the Universe
Unlike Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War doesn’t bring everyone in one battlefield. In fact, the battles take place in multiple areas and scenarios across the galaxy.
Marvel characters from the 10-year span of films are coming together for one goal, to stop Thanos. With the characters spread across the universe, it’s interesting where and how they meet up. With loads of scenarios happening, there’s never a dull moment where you wish you could time skip the scene. When there is one battle occurring, two other parties are preparing for battle. Marvel has planned each scene so well, they seamlessly work together with very few hiccups.
Summary
Avengers: Infinity War does an outstanding job of jamming characters into a 2 ½ hour screen time, regardless if some characters are missing. Fans should be entertained from beginning to end. Having to wait till May 3, 2019 for the next Avengers film is the only major drawback. Prepare for Thanos and his plans for an universe balance.
