Avengers: Infinity War starts this year’s summer movies and knocks it out of the ballpark. The latest Marvel Studios film’s opening weekend breaks the box office record at $250 million. The movie surpasses Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘s opening weekend gross of $247.9 million back in December 2015. Everyone knew this was going to be the #1 movie over the weekend but not many anticipated it would overthrow The Force Awakens. Until the end of May with Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story, no one is going to come near overthrowing the great Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
As for global sales, Infinity War brought in $380 million internationally, total of $630 million globally. The movie hasn’t opened in China yet.
Here are the top 10 movies over the weekend, A Quiet Place at #2 but not even close to Infinity War. Black Panther is still in theaters and sits at #5, very positive for a movie that’s been released since February 16 and coming to retail next month.
