Cult classic, arcade-styled game Ikaruga is headed to the Nintendo Switch thanks to publishing company, Nicalis. Since the game’s original release date in 2001, Teasure’s Ikaruga has landed on Japan arcades, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox 360, and PC. In March we mentioned the game received a European rating for the PlayStation 4 but appears the Nintendo Switch will get first dibs on the classic shoot ’em up game this year.
Here’s what the game is about along with features coming to the Nintendo console:
- Players pilot their sleek Ikaruga fighter and face off against enemy ships, while they maneuver to avoid obstacles and other dangers.
- Switching the polarity of the ship between black and white will let pilots absorb bullets of the same color, while opposite colored bullets do damage. As bullets become absorbed, the player’s homing laser attack becomes up to 10x more powerful than a standard shot.
- Spectacular 3D graphics showcase this vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up cult classic.
- Five stages feature elegant, yet tactical, level design and include challenging boss battles.
- Two game modes include Arcade and Prototype, with support for single player and two player cooperative modes.
- Vertical screen mode support allows for the game to play like a side-scrolling shooter!
Vertical screen. I’m screaming. This is a fantastic game to come out for the Nintendo Switch. Fans who are looking for a challenge and enjoy arcade, shoot ’em up genres should prepare to play this. Ikaruga releases on the Nintendo Switch May 29, 2018 for $14.99 (USD).
