If you haven’t seen the news while playing Pokémon GO, today, Sunday, July 8th is Pokémon GO Community Day. Niantic has been throwing events quite a lot recently but today is your day if you are looking for Squirtles, the Pokémon from generation one. This isn’t just an ordinary Squirtle, today’s Squirtles will be wearing a special accessory, sunglasses.
Why the shades? Those who are familiar with the Pokémon television series will remember one of the early episodes where a squad of Squirtles, the Squirtle Squad, wearing sunglasses, causing ruckus in a neighboring town. Capturing one not only gets you the cool shaded Pokémon but also the opportunity to unlock a rare attack for its evolved form (Blastoise) called the Hydro Cannon. When evolving the Squirtle to its two forms, the sunglasses will carry-on.
Squirtles aren’t the only thing happening today. Egg hatching will become easier in that timeframe, giving 1/4 distance to give trainers an easier time to hatch those long-distance friend eggs. However the event is set on a locked time. Here are the times per region:
- The Americas: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. PT
- Europe and Africa: 10:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m. BST
- Asia/Pacific: 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. JST
We wish the timeframe of this event was longer but at the very least there’s an opportunity. Put on some shades and adventure forth for that special Squirtle with shades.
