Thanks to twitter user YonkouProductions, we now have a clearer scan of Broly’s illustrations along with a new designs of Paragus, Broly’s father for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. We’ve talked about some differences with Broly’s appearances but let’s look at Paragus in the Super movie compared to the ’90s version.
Paragus has aged quite a bit compared to his days in the Broly movie in Dragon Ball Z. Taking the new Frieza (Freeza) armor designs, we still get that grudge-looking father. Paragus still has the scar over his left eye. However the scar looks bigger than before, we still think Broly is still the culprit on this injury. We don’t see any device in his hand that can control Broly’s powers but Broly still has an accessory around his beck, until he’s powered up. In the Dragon Ball Z movie, Paragus was able to control Broly’s power with a speciality made bracelet, until it broke. There could still be a device Paragus is using against Broly, perhaps in the bag around his waist but we’ll have to wait further down the year to see if that’s true.
While you may not see it on the front and side view, Paragus’s back view does show his Saiyan tail. This trait that all Saiyans carry. We’ll probably not see the “Great Ape” form, a transformation for Sayians to turn into giant apes. However, it feels like we are getting a Broly reboot and becoming more integrated in the Dragon Ball Super timeline. We’ve already seen a similar form of Broly with Kale, a Saiyan in a different universe. For now we can only speculate on how Broly and Paragus will tie-in with Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, and the others.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie released in theaters in Japan on December 14, 2018. North America in January 2019. You can read our review on the movie.
