Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story Opens at #2 on Opening Weekend

Dinosaurs take over in Japan’s theaters.

Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story opened in 364 theaters in Japan on July 13th. So how did the newest Pokémon movie do? It opened at #2 over the weekend with $4.43 million. Who beat the popular series? That would be Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, taking #1 at $12.6 million. Not only did it open at #2 but the movie made less than last year’s Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, which opened at #3 on its opening weekend in Japan but made about $4.58 million.

However, based on Pia’s opening day satisfaction polls, the 21st Pokémon movie did receive more positive feedback at 92.8% (first place) than Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom at 88.3% (5th place). A positive for the series despite earning slightly lower cash than last year’s film on opening weekend. This won’t stop any more Pokémon films to be made.
