When the ink-splattering game was announced in January 2017, fans couldn’t wait to play. Now, it’s been one year since its release on June 21, 2017. The game brought new characters, new game modes, and splattering foes with ink never gets old. Splatoon 2’s Splatfests keep the game fresh, even if at times they are driven by product brands such as Nike, but this weekend is a good one, Squid vs. Octopus. Since the game’s recent Octo Expansion, players can now play as Octolings and what’s the best way to celebrate Splatoon 2‘s anniversary than to have a Splatfest between the squids and octopuses.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game’s Splatfest, they are special events that held on a random schedule. Typically Nintendo will announce when the event will start and what teams players can choose, such as cats vs. dogs. Players will pick their team and play on the battlefield in a turf war. Turf war wins during this time will help your side out, and the winning side is determined by popularity, solo win percentage, and team win percentage. If you are thinking of jumping into a Splatfest and have a copy of the game, you are in luck! The Squid vs. Octopus Splatfest is going on right now until Saturday at 9pm PT (Sunday at 12am ET).
To celebrate the game’s anniversary, Japan’s Splatoon twitter account announced a thank you to the fans along with an artwork. Here’s to another ink-tastic year!
