It’s that time for companies to reveal their quarterly sales. We posted earlier on PlayStation 4’s sales so let’s jump into the Nintendo Switch. As of June 30, 2018, the Nintendo Switch has sold 19.67 million units and 86.93 million softwares sold. While we don’t have sales figures for July 2018, we can only imagine the hybrid console has reach 20 million sales. However the handheld console has dipped 4.4% from last year’s sales.
However, the software is making up for the loss. During the first quarter, Nintendo has sold 1.88 million Switch hardware and 17.96 million software. When compared to last year’s sales, that’s a 120.8% increase. New games such as Nintendo Labo (both sets combined), Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Mario Tennis Aces have sold at least 1 million each. Here is the current best-selling Nintendo Switch games:
- Super Mario Odyssey – 11.17 million
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 10.35 million
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 9.32 million
- Splatoon 2 – 6.76 million
- 1-2 Switch – 2.45 million
- ARMS – 2.01 million
- Kirby: Star Allies – 1.89 million
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.42 million
- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 1.40 million
- Mario Tennis Aces – 1.38 million
So how did the Nintendo 3DS do? The dual-screen handheld has sold 72.89 million units total and a total of 367.84 million softwares as of June 30, 2018. While the total numbers look great, latest earnings report states that the console has sold 0.36% units. That’s 61.9% drop from last year’s earnings report. Software? 2.95 million software units sold last quarter, that’s down 49.6% since last year. This shouldn’t be too surprising as the Nintendo Switch is still a hot item for the company. Here is the current best-selling Nintendo 3DS games:
- Mario Kart 7 – 17.21 million
- Pokémon X/Pokémon Y – 16.31 million
- Pokémon Sun/ Pokémon Moon – 16.12 million
- Pokémon Omega Ruby/ Pokémon Alpha Sapphire – 14.10 million
- New Super Mario Bros. 2 – 12.70 million
- Super Mario 3D Land – 12.12 million
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 11.78 million
- Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS – 9.30 million
- Pokémon Ultra Sun/ Pokémon Ultra Moon – 7.72million
- Tomodachi Life – 6.25 million
Both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS best-selling numbers include worldwide sales of physical, digital, and bundled with consoles. While Nintendo still declares the 3DS will continue to have new games made for it, how long will it last?
