The 21st Pokémon film, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us (also known as Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story) is coming to selected North American theaters on November 24, 26, and 28, and December 1 this year. Tickets are not available yet but when they are you’ll want to go to Fathom Events for your purchase. The movie did pretty well in Japan as its opening weekend at #2, while we won’t expect it to make more than Japan, it should do well in North America in its selected theaters. After all, Pokémon the First Movie and Pokémon the Movie 2000 are the top two grossed anime films in North America, according to Box Office Mojo so people do enjoy their Pokémon adventures.
Unlike other anime films that have and will be coming to North America theaters, Pokémon won’t have a screening for Japanese with English subtitles. The Power of Us will have some tough competition with Ralph Breaks the Internet hitting theaters on November 21, 2018.
The movie will bring back the legendary Pokémon, Lugia. Last time we saw him on the big screen was Pokémon the Movie 2000. Here is the synopsis of the movie from the official Pokémon website:
Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us tells the story of Ash and Pikachu as they journey to a small seaside town filled with a diverse set of characters, including a young athlete, a compulsive liar, a shy researcher, a bitter old woman, and a little girl with a big secret.
Every year, the townspeople gather to celebrate the Legendary Pokémon Lugia, who brings the wind that saved the town from destruction many years ago. The festival is a time for celebration, with a Pokémon Catching Race and a ceremonial flame burning brightly to summon Lugia. But when a series of incidents threatens not just the festival, but all the people and Pokémon who call the town home, it’s going to take more than just Ash and Pikachu to save the day. Will these people be able to put aside their differences and work together to rescue their town? Or will it all end in destruction?
This will be the third popular anime film hitting North America theaters within 6 months: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (end of September), Dragon Ball Super: Broly (January 2019), and Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us (end of November). Let’s keep up the pace to help bring more anime films to western countries! You can watch the official English trailer below. Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us will release on November 24, 26, and 28, and December 1, 2018.
