The PlayStation (PS) Vita has been an unique device that just never was. First-party games didn’t last long on the portable console and buying memory cards felt like taking out a loan. Heck, even Sony let the console fend for itself for years with lack of support. Now it’s official, PS Vita ending in 2019.
Players who enjoy classic PS, role-playing, and indie games along with the ability to play remote play had a good run with it. During Tokyo Game Show, Hiroyuki Oda, senior vice president of Sony Interactive Entertainment was interview with Famitsu regarding the PlayStation Classic. During the interview, Hiroyuki informed Famitsu that they would be stopping production on the console in 2019.
As for a successor? “No plans” of an announcement. As for the PlayStation Classic, Famitsu was told that the classic games will be different between countries, depending on popularity. Which is no surprise. If you have over 20 classic games you’ve enjoy, it may not be too late to pick not just a PS Vita, but the PlayStation TV. Will costs about the same as the Classic and have access to more games. Plus, you can use either the PlayStation DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 controller.
