Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Japan and Wall Street Journal (WSJ) United States have reported that Nintendo will be releasing a Nintendo Switch new model in the summer of 2019. Details regarding hardware specs are unknown but rumored that a new display would be one of the upgrades. Currently the Switch uses a 720p LCD display and could potentially use a LED display that’s being offered for the iPhone XR.

WSJ also reports that the remodel is to help boost sales of the console since being released in March 2017. Sales have been slowing down and Nintendo is looking to keep the momentum going. Typically Nintendo does a remodel towards the end of the console’s lifecycle. For this to happen just over a year of its release is a bit surprising. Let’s hope this doesn’t become the next “new 3DS” where some games work on the newer console. Highly unlikely Nintendo would go this route but business decisions are unpredictable.

Details to come when available as Nintendo has not confirmed the story yet.
