Another manga is getting a live-action treatment. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that a live-action My Hero Academia is being produced by Legendary Pictures. Alex Garcia (Godzilla 2014, Kong: Skull Island) and Jay Ashenfelter (Pacific Rim) will be involved in the production of the film. Toho Co. will distribute the movie in Japan. Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the series may not be involved with the film’s production. However, Ryosuke Yoritomi will be with Shueisha, the company that owns My Hero Academia.

My Hero Academia is unquestionably popular, not only in Japan but across the globe. The recent animated film also did quite well in North America. For Hollywood to jump on the opportunity to cash-in. With films that have adapted from the original manga, such as Death Note, Ghost in the Shell (starring Scarlett Johansson), and Dragon Ball Evolution, the odds are against Legendary. The fact that My Hero Academia and one of its popular characters, All Might is inspired by Marvel and DC Comics there’s a legitimate shot the film could see some success. However, its too soon to tell with no announcement of actors and a theater date.

Legendary is also releasing a couple movies based on Japanese’s pop culture icons next year. The live-action Detective Pikachu that is slated for May 20, 2019 and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters on May 31, 2019. The entertainment company has also been involved with popular films such as the Dark Knight, Jurassic World, and Pacific Rim.

Which actor would you want to play the role of All Might, Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco Uraraka, Shoto Todoroki, and others? Would you want Dwayne Johnson as All Might? How close will the movie be to the manga or will this be a different path similar to what Dragon Ball Evolution was? Despite how the film does, the live-action My Hero Academia should not take away your thoughts on the original series.
