Dragon Ball Super: Broly opening weekend in Japan at #1. It has made an impressive impact on its opening weekend (December 15th-16th). The movie opened up at 467 theaters across Japan. On Saturday and Sunday, 639,000 people attended the movie, bringing in 813 million yen (approximately $7.23 million USD). That’s about 84% of what Dragon Ball Resurrection of “F” made on its opening weekend in Japan, back in April 2015. What’s more impressive is that Resurrection of “F” surpassed Dragon Ball Battle of Gods, in nineteen days.
That’s just two days the newest Dragon Ball movie has accomplished. Dragon Ball Super: Broly has made a total of 1,050,055,000 yen (approximately $9.33 million USD) over the weekend. With that, 824,205 people attended to see the 20th Dragon Ball movie. People want their Dragon Ball and it’s showing after these few years.
The newest Dragon Ball movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly is on its way to surpass its predecessor, Dragon Ball Resurrection of “F”, which made a grand total of 3.74 billion yen (approximately $33.25 million USD) in Japan.
Back to the weekend box office in Japan, second place film didn’t even come close to the Saiyan power. Bohemian Rhapsody kept on the charts as second for four consecutive weeks. The Queen film brought in 431.53 million yen (approximately $3.8 million USD) on its Saturday and Sunday showings. Making its debut, the new Yo-Kai Watch movie, Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends came in fourth at 251 million yen (approximately $2.23 million USD) on the two days.
