LEGO Movie Part 2 Falls Flat Opening Weekend

Making Dragon Ball Super: Broly looking more impressive.

LEGO Movie Part 2 opening weekend didn’t do so hot. The movie’s opening weekend came out to be $34.7 million at 4,303 theaters in the United States. It’s opening day on a Friday came out a low $8.5 million. While the movie was #1 in majority of the theaters, that’s not impressive. The first Lego Movie opened at $69 million at 3,775 theaters. Opening day on a Friday was $17 million. Big difference.

What’s even more nuts? Dragon Ball Super: Broly did much better even if it made a little less at $7 million on opening day, on a Wednesday. Not Friday, Wednesday and at 1,250 theaters. The movie made $20.2 million from Wednesday to Sunday in the United States. The movie had less showings on Friday at 471 theaters. Saturday and Sunday at 1,238 theaters.

The LEGO Movie Part 2 can still pick up the pace in the following weekends and there’s always disc and digital sales. However, you can’t deny it’s unimpressive opening weekend at the box office. Now if we get a Dragon Ball and LEGO crossover movie, may be that would sell more?

You can read our Dragon Ball Super: Broly review as the movie is set to release on disc and digital this April.
