It’s official from Japan. The next Sony console, the PlayStation 5 releasing end of 2020. More likely the rest of the world will see it that same timeframe. To take-in the 2020 holiday sales, this was a no-brainer. The PlayStation 4 released in the United States and Europe in November 2013 for that reason, holiday sales. However, Japan didn’t get their console until February of 2014. While we don’t have an official date yet for each country, right now we only know the PlayStation 5 will hit retail at the tail end of 2020.
Japan’s PlayStation Blog states that they are also making modifications for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) controller. Adjusting the vibration, feeling a wider range of vibrations than just the norm. Second, the L2 and R2 buttons are to have a better response. Game developers will be able to program the trigger resistance to match the actions the player takes in the game. For example, shooting a bow would trigger different than accelerating a vehicle. WIRED magazine has interview Sony with more details about the console.
