Ghostbusters was a major success in the 1980s and 1990s. Since then, the Ghostbusters brand has been pumping out video games, and re-release movies for years. Ghostbusters 2016 was release in 2016 to re-tell the origin story of the Ghostbusters but with a female team. Unfortunately the movie did not fare well with critics and fans. Instead of building a sequel to the 2016 film, Sony Pictures return to the drawing board and instead made a sequel to the original film. A year ago, Sony teased an upcoming movie was in the works. Now, we have the official Ghostbusters Afterlife trailer.
Taking place years after the events of the Ghostbusters films. Phoebe (Captain Marvel) and Trevor (Stranger Things) with their mother, Callie (The Leftovers), moved to a rural town in Oklahoma to live at an abandoned farmhouse left behind by her dead father/grandfather. Phoebe discovers that her late grandfather, Egon Spangler was a Ghostbuster. Egon’s Ghostbuster equipment and Ecto-1 vehicle were stored away in the abdonded farmhouse. However, sudden earthquakes begin to occur frequently and ghosts are now making a return from their long slumber.
During the trailer, fans of the series will have nostalgia vibes while watching the trailer (below). One of the scenes that popped up and yet to be determine is a possible return of the 1984 Ghosbusters‘ terror dogs. While Harold Ramis died in 2014, majority of the original cast (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts) will make a return on set, just in this first trailer.
Ghostbusters Afterlife will hit theaters on July 10, 2020. You can watch the Ghostbusters Afterlife official trailer below. If that’s not enough, check out the Ghostbusters Video Game Remastered.
