Japan received two animated theater films based on role-playing games Ni no Kuni and Dragon Quest. While no theater date set for these two films outside the country, they’ll be delivered to Netflix this year. It’s a great year right now for fans of both franchises to get a chance to watch Ni no Kuni and Dragon Quest films.
The Ni no Kuni film isn’t based on the same characters from the original game, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. However will share similar plot of the fantasy world, parallel to the real world. Studio Ghibli animator Yoshiyuki Momose (Spirited Away) lends his talent to the film. Originally released in the summer, Ni no Kuni releases on Netflix on January 16, 2020. Dragon Quest‘s film, Dragon Quest Your Story also released in Japan summer of 2019. Unlike the Ni no Kuni film, the Dragon Quest film based off of the 1992 game, Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. No date set when Dragon Quest Your Story to be available on Netflix, but keep an eye out on their site for a date. Dragon Quest Your Story launches on Netflix on February 13, 2020.
