Anime Soccer Game Makes a Surprise Release to America

Release the tiger within you.

For the longest time anime video games has been mostly on popular shonen anime such as Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. Out of nowhere, an anime soccer game makes a surprise release announcement for America. The anime soccer game, titled Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) in 2020.

Soccer, also known as football internationally, doesn’t get much reputation in the United States and rightfully more. What better way to introduce the popular worldwide sport with a sports related anime video game. Players control members of the team to run up and down the field to score. To make it more majestic, players that strike the ball can summon their inner beasts for some delightful animations. You can get a glimpse of the game in the announcement trailer below.

Captain Tsubasa first introduced in Japanese manga for Shonen Jump back in 1981 in Japan. The series had multiple sequels throughout the years and quite popular in the country. There’s been more anime sport related series that’s not just based on soccer. For example, today’s anime series has a volleyball series called Haikyu!! that’s currently running its fourth season. Ideally, more sports related anime games should be brought over to the west and Bandai Namco played a smart move with Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions releases on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) in 2020. Pre-orders open on Bandai Namco’s online store.
