Back end of January, Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Switch edition that’s based off of upcoming game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Those who are looking to jump into their first Nintendo Switch purchase, replacing their original launched console or are Animal Crossing fans will find it worth the pickup.
Your Getaway Bundle
When first opening your getaway package, you may not get that ocean breeze scent but the pastel-colored Joy-Con controllers are a welcoming view. All your necessary cords and manuals included along with your special Switch console and colorful dock. The box itself is detailed to the point where the pastel colored Joy-Cons are printed on it. Not just on the front but also in the instructions section too.
What’s Old is New Again
Believe it or not, the Switch is 3 years old. For those who purchased the console on launch date and with no official news on a Nintendo Switch Pro, picking up a new Switch may not be a bad idea. With the Animal Crossing: New Horizons edition, you aren’t just getting a new fresh coat of paint but a better battery. Boosting from an estimate of 2.5-6.5 hrs of gameplay to 4.5-9hrs, when comparing to the older model.
The console design itself at first looks like any other Switch console. Flip to the back and you’ll see a slick Animal Crossing theme decal on the back. The decal isn’t just a logo slapped on the back but instead a simple pattern resembling ocean waves, houses and villagers. It’s a similar treatment on the Pikachu & Eevee edition but with more details.
A New Horizon for Dock Design
Generally, every Nintendo Switch dock is black. Sometime with decals based on the console’s edition. For this edition, no where near black. Instead it’s all pastels from the bottom up. The dock dipped in a pastel white with a colorful illustration of the Nook family printed on the front. Quite different and a new fresh look. The dock itself hasn’t changed in terms of ports and size. Though compared to the original launched dock, it does feel a bit looser when you connect your Switch to it.
New Look, New Strings Attached
Not only did the console and dock get a new fresh coat of paint but the console-exclusive Joy-Cons also received a new color theme. Steering from bright and vibrant colors, these controllers matching the rest of the console bundle with a spring and summer vibe. Additionally, the Joy-Con straps also received a new look. Instead of the generic black attachment, these match the pastel controller. The string design made some modifications to look more crafty and matching its colored Joy-Con controller.
Final Call
Is the Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing: New Horizons Edition worth the purchase? Absolutely if you own the first launched Switch three years back and an Animal Crossing fan. If you just picked up a Nintendo Switch a year ago, you can hold off unless you are looking for a new coat of paint for your Switch. Be aware this edition does not come with the game in the United States. If you are looking to pickup only the dock and Joy-Cons, you’ll have to try and import from Japan when available.
