Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles Announced for Netflix

Usagi Yojimbo makes a return.

Comic book series Usagi Yojimbo making its way back but on the TV screen. Revealed earlier, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles announced for Netflix as an animated kids series. Netflix and Gaumont announced the comedy-action series based on the 35-year-old comic book, Usagi Yojimbo. The series to be produced with partnership of the original creator, Stan Sakai who will serve as executive producer.

Stan Sakai had this to say about the announcement of his creation coming to life:

It is a pleasure working with Gaumont and Netflix. I am involved in each step of the production and am enthusiastic with the direction we are going into.  It is wonderful to expand the Usagi universe by collaborating with so many talented people. I am working with an awesome team and I’m looking forward to finally seeing an Usagi series on the screen! I thank my wonderful fans, friends and family for their support and encouragement over the last 35+ years.

Those who are unfamiliar with Stan Sakai. Sakai was born in Kyoto, Japan and grew up in Hawaii. Beginning of his career, he worked on comic book lettering for Groo the Wanderer and with Stan Lee on Spider-Man‘s Sunday newspaper strips for 25 years. His famous work of Usagi Yojimbo started as a graphic novel in 1984 and created 34 volumes. Those growing up in the late 1980s and early 2000s will remember Usagi’s multiple appearances in the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons.
