The Nintendo Switch isn’t going to be the only console getting the special treatment of Dragon Quest XI. Revealed today by Square Enix, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age launches on multiple platforms. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, Windows 10 and PC (Steam) on December 4th this year.

Dragon Quest XI originally launched on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS in Japan in July 2017. Later in September 2018, the RPG released on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) worldwide . An upgraded version, Dragon Quest XI S released on the Nintendo Switch in September 2019.

Here are the enhancements that’ll come this December:

• New character side stories – Get to know your fascinating cast of companions more than ever with individual side stories and adventures
• Retro 2D mode – In addition to stunning 3D, you can also choose to play in 2D with retro inspired graphics of classic 16-bit RPGs
• 16-bit World of Tickington – Journey to past DRAGON QUEST worlds full of additional side-quests reimagined in the retro style
• Japanese audio – Choice to play the entire game with all-new Japanese voice-over or the original English
• Fully Orchestrated Soundtrack – Ability to switch between the symphonic soundtrack or the original synthesized soundtrack as you travel the world of Erdrea
• Photo mode – Immortalize your adventure with the perfect image. Rearrange characters, set different poses, change angles etc. are just some of the features available in Photo Mode

Regards to those who already own the original Dragon Quest XI on the PlayStation 4, no official word if there will be an upgrade version to purchase. We’ve reached out to Square Enix for clarification.

Dragon Quest XI S announced for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows 10, and PC (Steam) launches December 4, 2020. Pre-orders opened on the Microsoft store and Steam.
