Update July 27, 2020: After 3hrs in, the game reached its first goal. Before midnight in the eastern time zone (EST), the game surpassed $1 million USD. Reaching its goal for video game console release in 2022. Banzai!
Suikoden fans have waiting years for a new game, especially those living outside of Japan. The last Suikoden titled game in Japan was released in February 2012 for the PSP, Genso Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. Elsewhere, the 2009 Nintendo DS game, Suikoden Tierkreis. While Konami has not showed signs of a new Suikoden title, some who have worked on earlier Suikoden games decided to collaborate once more to make a Suikoden successor, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
Yoshitaka Murayama (Suikoden I&II) and Junko Kawano (Suikoden I&IV) collaborating once more since 25 years to make this new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), creating their own company, Rabbit & Bear Studios. Similar to Suikoden, Eiyuden Chronicle will have a similar battle system. Creating a 6-character turn-based battle system with creative 2D sprites and gorgeous 3D backgrounds. While exploring towns, the game’s 2D sprite in 3D environment looks beautifully done, very similar to Octopath Traveler. 100 characters intertwined into the deep story. Did we mentioned the game is shaping up to be a Suikoden successor?
As for the soundtrack, veteran composers will be joining the project: Motoi Sakuraba (Tales Of series, Shining Force 3, Golden Sun, Baten Kaitos), Michiko Naruke (Wild ARMs 1-4) and Mariam Abounnasr from Procyon Studio (Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Oninaki).
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Kickstarter campaign kicked off today and surpassed its initial goal of $509,713 USD. Additionally Kickstarter went down for a brief time when the project kicked off. With its initial goal passed, a PC version will release in 2022. Because the Kickstarter project launches in the middle of current and next generation consoles, it’s hard to say what exact console the game will be played on in two years. However, the game scheduled to launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Nintendo’s next generation console. This could be the Switch 2 or whatever console is going to be sticking around. That is if the stretch goal on Kickstarter can reach $1 million USD, the game will come to consoles. Regards to the Nintendo Switch, the developers show concern of the console’s “low spec hardware” and by downgrading the game’s quality, let’s say from the PlayStation 5 to the Nintendo Switch would cost more money. For now, take this with a grain of salt until the game’s development nearly done.
The best part of the game? Eiyuden Chronicle will have loads of cats in the game. Meow we’re talking! Those interested in backing up the project can do so as there’s many rewards given to how much you spend, such as soundtracks, statues, physical copies of the game and more. Make it more personalize, there’s rewards to add your favorite cat (or other critter) and yourself as a non-playable character (NPC).
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Story Synopsis:
Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of nations with diverse cultures and values.
By dint of sword, and by way of magical objects known as “rune-lenses,” the land’s history has been shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people who live there.
The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses’ magic. Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will expand their power even further.
It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends.
However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Kickstarter campaign officially open and closes on Thursday, August 27, 2020.
