Right Stuf, the Iowa-based video publisher, distributor, and retailer of all things anime and Asian entertainment related, had a well-rounded presentation at Anime Expo Lite 2020. They showed off not only their charm but also their dedication and commitment to the anime fan community.  They also revealed the release dates for a handful of upcoming titles. As always, Cat with Monocle was watching, wishing we could spend a day among their treasures.

They Can Handle Stuf

Right Stuf was founded in July 1987, meaning they have been around for thirty-three years. To celebrate, they are holding a big birthday sale throughout the month of July! They have a hard-working team of people focused on bringing the anime goods to the fans, and a few of them could be seen giving a thumbs up in a video tour of their offices. Aside from the tour, which included a look at their screening theater and customer service area, they demonstrated the durability of their packaging by dropping it from a height of thirty feet. The outcome: the outermost cardboard was damaged, of course, but the goods inside were completely unharmed. Customers are guaranteed to receive whatever they ordered in one piece.

That’s especially the case if the product ordered is the limited edition, life-size statue of Rem from Re:ZERO that they showed. With only ten made in the world and retailing at $40,000 apiece, anyone would demand the utmost care be taken. The figure is definitely a masterwork, though, showing the younger demon maid in an elegant blue kimono and holding an authentic Japanese umbrella handcrafted by a renowned umbrella manufacturer. Seriously, whoever picks this up will be the cat’s meow.

New Stuf Coming

In the latter half of the presentation, Nozomi Entertainment, the publishing arm of New Stuf, showcased anime titles being released.

Mobile Suit Gundam NT (Narrative) is a movie that takes place a year after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. It was released in U.S. theaters for a single day in 2019, but for those who missed it (like me), the Blu-ray will soon be available exclusively through the Right Stuf site.

The hotly anticipated Gundam Seed Ultra Edition Blu-ray doesn’t have a specific date just yet, but that’s so they can get everything perfect. That includes having both new and old dubs, as well as updated, higher quality animation and scene edits. They did a side-by-side comparison of a scene during the battle for Orb, and the new version blows the original out of the water. In short, the long wait will mostly definitely be worth it.
