As fans of the popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft, they recognized the need for comfort during long gaming sessions and released their first chair a few years later. By the end of 2016, they were selling GTRacing chairs in the American, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Two years later, GTRacing chairs expanded into Europe. Recently, we took their Pro Series chair for a spin, and we found that it’s a comfortable piece of furniture not just for gamers but for anyone who sits in front of a computer for hours at a time.
Some Assembly Required
GTRacing’s product delivery was quick; within two days a large-sized box was delivered. Assembly was relatively speedy, too. From opening the box to having a complete chair to sit in, it took roughly 36 minutes to put the roughly dozen or so pieces together (not including wheels). That time estimate includes reading the instructions and pacing yourself. The directions are easy to follow and the set up is straightforward, so customers shouldn’t feel anxious when putting it together.
Supporting Your Body
The chair comes with two pillows—back and head—to support your body. The back pillow has a lumbar cushion that feels great on the spine. There is also a zipper for opening up the cushion, but it exists more for the design aesthetics than for refilling the cushion. Anyway, the back pillow has a strap on each side that wraps around the chair vertically, resembling a child’s car seat. From the back of the chair, each side of the pillow can be adjusted up or down to fit your comfort. You may have to adjust the strap a few times, but once set, you’re golden until someone else messes with it.
The head pillow is a different story. It’s filled with stuffing that’s not as good quality compared to what’s in the back. While again, there’s a zipper mostly for looks, you could potentially add more stuffing if you need the extra support. Just don’t be surprised if the zipper gets caught on the fabric. Anyway, there’s a strap on the head pillow that wraps around the chair horizontally. The original instructions and product photos illustrate putting the straps through the chair’s opening spots. In doing so, however, the pillow appears to droop down. If you’re someone of an average male height, let’s say 5’8”, with the pillow sitting too low, it’ll touch your shoulders as you’re leaning back. Alternatively, for better support, opt for wrapping the head pillow around the chair over using the holes. Doing that gives it a tighter grip, since the strap itself does not tighten, so that it will sit at your neck or head, based on your preference when leaning back. After finding that right spot, the chair felt much more comfortable, even if it’s not exactly using the same setup as the original product shots.
The chair’s padded, metal frame gives the bottom and back a firm level of comfort, with the curved edges being there for added support and overall design aesthetics. The chair can hold up to 300 pounds, a standard for chairs, but GTRacing does offer chairs that can go up to 350 pounds. When compared to similar heavy duty products from competitors such as Secretlab, GTRacing offers the best value if you’re on a budget.
The Pro Series’s armrests are one of the chair’s best features. Aside from being able to adjust them up or down, they also have the ability to turn each side about 40 degrees inward or outward. Resting your arms after doing the adjustments allows them to be in a more relaxed position when typing or playing. Similar to the armrests, the chair has an adjustable height. Additionally, it has a class 4 hydraulics gas lift, which is the top level (1-4) for gaming chairs for stability and durability.
Going for a Spin
For reclining, the Pro Series can go from 90 to 170 degrees. Those who want that laid-back experience for gaming can get that without laying in bed or on a couch. Per the standard, the chair does go 360 degrees, making it a great feature if you want to spin your cat around in it.
The chair’s five rollers are smooth but are tricker to use on thick carpet. They are recommended on thinner carpet or on flat surfaces. As for color options, GTRacing offers a variety of accents from which to choose for its Pro Series: red, blue, purple, pink, white, gray, and black.
The Final Adjustment
GTRacing’s Pro Series has more than a handful of great features for a great value. While the head pillow isn’t the best, there are workarounds to make it work. If you’re looking to purchase your first gaming chair or are on a budget, it’s recommended to take a look at GTRacing’s Pro Series.
The Pro Series chair was delivered to us by Wudi Industry for this review and can be purchased on the official GTRacing.com online store or at Amazon.
