Demon Slayer Film Overthrows Spirited Away in Highest-Grossing Film in Japan

No slowing down this train.

Since its release on October 16th, Demon Slayer film, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, has been breaking records left and right. In 45 days, the anime film surpassed The Titanic, making it the second highest-grossing film in Japan. The highest-grossing film goes to Hayao Miyazaki’s film, Spirited Away, until now. Despite the pandemic, it took 59 days for Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train to overthrow Spirited Away as the highest-grossing film at 32.47 billion yen ($313 million USD). Making it more impressive, Spirited Away took 253 days to bring in 30 billion yen.

As when the film will arrive to theaters in North America, Aniplex announced for it to arrive in 2021. A specific date still unknown. Before you jump into watching the film, you’ll want to either watch or read the popular Shonen series, Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer revolves around a boy named Tanjiro Kamado who’s family slaughtered by demons and his sister, Nezuko turned into one. In Mugen Train, Tanjiro, Nezuko, and fellow demon slayers take on a dangerous mission to save the passengers from a powerful demon.

Demon Slayer manga finished its last chapter back in May 18, 2020. The animated series currently in production for season 2, release date not revealed.
