Pixar’s next film, Turning Red, launched its first teaser trailer. The film evolves around Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who just discovered she can turn into a giant red panda based off of her emotions. Mei’s mother, Ming, is an overbearing mother who’s caught on school grounds on spying on her daughter while she’s in class. Mei’s anxiety takes over after witnessing her mom’s behavior outsider her class, turning Mei into a giant red panda. Later, viewers watch Mei running away, outside of school and back home, trying to turn back to normal.

The film looks to be another entertaining, animated film, like many Pixar films. The teaser trailer uses classic 90s bands such as Backstreet Boys’s “Larger Than Life” and NYSNC’s “It’s Gonna Be“. The film’s director is Domee Shi, well-known for her 2018 short film, Bao. It is also the Pixar short film to be directed by a female director. The short was shown before the viewing of the Incredibles 2 on June 15, 2018.

Pixar looks to launch its first film in theaters since Onward, which opened in theaters just before the global pandemic closed theater doors. Turning Red scheduled to release on March 11, 2022.
