At the end of today’s Pokémon special event presentation, a new series was revealed. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet announced for the Nintendo Switch. The release window is a surprise, aiming for a holiday 2022 release worldwide.

A teaser trailer showcased about the game and by the looks of it, it’s in a good spot in development. While no battle gameplay revealed, viewers at least saw an environment that looks to resemble an open-world exploration. The Pokémon Company has stated that the open world game will have “no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness” and “Pokémon can be seen everywhere in this wide-open world—in the skies, in the sea, and on the streets”. The question remains, will the new series play similar to the recent release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus or Pokémon Sword and Shield? Fans will have to wait later in the year to find out.

A new set of Pokémon starters revealed in the teaser trailer. Trainers can choose either Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon, Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon, or Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon to be their first partner Pokémon.

Here’s the stats about each starter:

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet releases exclusively to the Nintendo Switch with a release window of late 2022. The official website for Scarlet and Violet available for the public.
