While it’s not a big surprise, it’s clear now in the latest Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet trailer from today on what the combat gameplay will be. After Pokémon Legends: Arceus gave us a new way to battle and capture Pokémon. Turn-based battles return in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The Pokémon Company looks to keep the original battle formula intact in the mainstream Pokémon titles. This also goes for capturing Pokémon too. Instead of stealth mode, you’ll have to encounter wild Pokémon and go through the same formula or capturing. Weaken them in battle and throw a Pokéball.
If you were hoping a new change of pace of the series after Arceus, Scarlet and Violet look more and more like Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. If you’re looking for more action in battles and capturing, well it seems you’ll have to wait for another Pokémon Legends title. But hey, at least players can soon play co-op in the latest Pokémon title.
Comparing to the previous main entry, Scarlet and Violet is bringing more realistic changes to the characters and environment but visually looks downgraded like Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
