Sonic Origins Plus Announced

Game Gear games, playable Amy Rose, and more.

After one year, Sonic Origins is getting more content. Sonic Origins Plus announced by Sega will include a new playable character and additional games. Additionally, a physical edition of the entire set is set to release the same date the digital version goes on sale, only for consoles. Sorry PC players. Those who’ve already own the original Sonic Origins, you’ll have the option to purchase just the upgrade package.

Fans can play as Amy Rose in the original Sonic the Hedgehog titles, a new feature in the franchise. Knuckles also gets some attention as he’ll become playable in Sonic CD in the latest upgrade. New modes, challenges, museum content and 12 Game Gear games coming later to this year. Unfortunately the games appear to not have the same treatment as the four main Sonic the Hedgehog titles in Sonic Origins. Instead, they’ll get the 4:3 ratio with bars for widescreens.

Here are the Game Gear games that were revealed:

  • Tails’ Skypatrol
  • Tails Adventures
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
  • Sonic Spinball
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Sonic Blast
  • Sonic Drift
  • Sonic Drift 2
  • Sonic Labyrinth
  • Sonic Chaos

Sonic Origins Plus announced to release on June 23, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A physical edition that includes all 16 games releasing the same day for consoles only. Additional information about the collection available on the game’s official website. Sonic Origins wallpapers available on Cat with Monocle.
