Super Bomberman R 2 – First Impressions

Bombs away!

Coming off a successful return from Super Bomberman R, the Bomberman party returns in a new adventure, Super Bomberman R 2. The game offers new ways and original matches for those who’ve enjoyed Bomberman games for decades. However, the game’s new features such as customizing boards feels lackluster to help justify the $50 price tag. Especially when compared to its previous entry, Super Bomberman R, which can be found for a cheaper cost.

The extra Bomberman characters and outfits are neat and can be purchased the game’s in-game store. These extras include Konami characters from games like Suikoden II, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Castlevania series. Earning coins can be earn by playing matches online or offline. The game’s story mode is a good way to become familiar with Bomberman and its mechanics for those new to the series. The adventure map while playing in the game’s story mode is fun at first but the competitive play is where many will gravitate towards. Super Bomberman R 2 offers seasons for players to earn ranked matches, earning digital game prizes. Regards to voice acting, the English acting feels non-emotional and cringy. Players may want to turn to the Japanese version with subtitles to get around this.

Is Super Bomberman R 2 worth picking up? Unfortunately not for the original $50 price mark and wait for a sale. Otherwise Super Bomberman R is enough to get by till then.

Super Bomberman R 2 available now for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC. Players can visit the games official website for additional details or purchase the game online.
