If you take Mario Party and Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) together, you get an over-the-top party game called Super Crazy Rhythm Castle. From the creators of Konami, well-known for their lineup of DDR and Metal Gear Solid franchises, brings a new rhythm game that’s out of the ordinary.
The game lets players have up-to four players to play together, online or offline. You and your gang (or solo) are challenging King Ferdinand, dethroning him and taking over the castle. However, he’s not going down without a fight. Instead, he set up a trap at the entrance to make you start from the bottom level of the castle and work your way up to challenge his crown.
Players will navigate around the level to take on courses to unlock areas to proceed to the next floor. These courses are designed to give players a (fun) workout with a mixture of more than just button pressing to the beat of the music. No, no, no, the king wants you to multitask. If you’re playing solo, you’re in for a workout but with others joining your journey, you’ll have an easier time. This way one player can handle the music while the others handle the puzzle-solving.
For example, the player will need to press the correct button on their controller to the music notes coming down the screen. At a certain point, you have to jump off your rhythm mini game to throw broccoli at the center of the screen, then return to your rhythm game. It sounds confusing but that’s because the game doesn’t let you tackle just one task, there’s definitely multitasking in this game. Additionally, players need to be aware of their surroundings too. Is it possible to play the game solo? Yes but the game feels more like a party game to enjoy with others.
The game definitely has its weird surprises. If throwing broccoli isn’t enough, you’ll also have to take down a giant DJ eggplant with hitting the right rhythm notes to shoot projectiles in order to take it down. You don’t need to be a pro to this rhythm game and that’ll put less stress to your journey.
