Wings of Endless is an indie role-playing, action adventure game that offers a fun gameplay experience.
The Best Man for the Job

Players will take on the role of Hariku, a bounty hunter who wields a giant hammer as his weapon and is known for boasting about his skills as being the best bounty hunter. Your objective is to retrieve and deliver a talking owl named Owly, who possesses a mysterious power and history. The mission assigned to you is a lengthy journey to deliver Owly to the mage’s tower, but there is something lurking that could tip the world back into the brutal years of war.
The engaging story and dialogue make the adventure enjoyable, especially when Owly interacts with the party members. Players will be eager to uncover what unfolds next and the consequences of Hariku completing his mission. If you find yourself unsure of what to do next, Owly will provide hints when you reach a save point.
Similar to many games with long journeys, players have the choice to complete side quests. These can be found on bulletin boards in each village. Feel free to take on as many as you like, as there is no time limit and some may require you to backtrack. It is advisable to complete these tasks in order to earn extra money, equipment, and other rewards.
Fly Like an Owl

The game wastes no time in giving players the ability to double jump and quick speed bursts early on. It is one of the most useful abilities available, exclusive to Hariku. With his powerful strength in wielding his hammer and the power Owly gives him, Hariku is the most valuable character and will be used most frequently.
As you progress, you will encounter Diana, who joins your party whether you like it or not. She is useful with her throwing ability for knives and bombs. One of her biggest assets is creating positions at save points, provided you have all the necessary ingredients. Later in the game, you will meet Makoto, a mage who can cast fire and ice spells.
Each character has unique abilities that prove beneficial throughout your adventure, and you can easily switch between them with a simple press of a button on the controller. Hariku excels in battles due to his strength and health bar. Diana’s potion-making skills are cost-effective, but her attacks feel inferior compared to Hariku and Makoto. Makoto’s spells are more effective for long-range attacks than Diana’s knife throwing. His powered-up attacks, such as homing fire spells and ice spells to freeze enemies, come in handy. Makoto’s ability to freeze enemies gives players the advantage to jump on them and reach areas that are hard-to-reach for possible treasures. Riches await!
When using potions, you can switch between them using the directional pad and activate them with the controller’s action button assigned to it. There is a cooldown period before using another potion. Some may find it cumbersome but it adds more challenges and critical thinking for players. If this proves too cumbersome, there is an alternative method to use items that pauses the game, allowing players to select a potion at their own pace. The same applies to swapping characters. The game’s various options on swapping between items and characters is well thought out, showing the development team’s forward-thinking approach.
Unlock Their Potential

Each character has a set of abilities that can be unlocked, similar to a skill tree in games like Final Fantasy X. To earn points, you’ll need to level up by defeating enemies. Some skills, like Diana’s bomb throwing or Makoto’s ice spell that immobilizes enemies longer, can give you an advantage in battles or help you access hard-to-reach treasures.
All three characters share the same leveling system, so when you level up, all their stats increase. You can further boost their stats by using gold feathers hidden throughout the world. These feathers are often found in secret areas, so keep an eye out and explore carefully. Each feather can only be used once and affects only one character, so choose wisely.
The presence of secret areas and the opportunity to unlock and enhance your character greatly increase the game’s replay value. It would be intriguing to see additional methods for character growth, so that Diana and Makoto could be just as powerful as Hariku during battles early in the game.
In a Pinch

Boss battles can be tricky as they can deal a lot of damage that can knock out a party member in one or two hits. Players can revive a party member by holding down one of the controller’s buttons but it takes time to execute by letting the gauge fill up. However, the enemy won’t sit there and wait, making it more challenging. Expect a few deaths before understanding the enemy’s attack pattern or building up your stats some more before taking on the challenge once more.
Boss fights can be frustrating at times, but using Hairku to take on these battles head-on seems to work most of the time and offscales the balance on character usage with a few tricks. When his health is low, execute a potion. If you have an accessory on Hariku that allows him to regenerate his health, swap your character so he can gain his health. It feels like you don’t have to overthink these battles if you know these tricks work in your favor and feel like you other two party members are pawns.
One of the most annoying features players will find is the warning sound when a character’s health is low. It emits a constant loop of a higher-pitched sound effect, making you want to swap characters or give a potion as fast as possible. Adjusting to a different pitch or something less harmful to the ear would be beneficial.
Pixel Wonders

The pixel art style used in Wings of Endless is beautifully executed, with an impressive amount of detail in the sprite-based forms. The background to foreground details provide great depth perception without distracting the player too much with excessive movement. Occasionally, items like the white-colored floating orbs that contain materials for making potions blend with the snow covered trees, but it does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the game. When Hariku utilizes Owly’s powers or swings his hammer with bright, vibrant colors, the special effects really stand out.
The soundtrack adds significant value to the gameplay of the game. Each area you explore has a different vibe, with the first area you visit after acquiring Owly feeling whimsical, while the snowy valleys evoke a different feeling. Boss battles and story events bring a more intense atmosphere to the game.
The Final Feather
Wings of Endless has some rough edges, but overall, it’s a vibrant, pixelated journey for players to explore while uncovering its charming story.
