Monmusu Girls: Autobattler is a casual strategy game. As the name suggests, it features an automated battle system where players select their monster girl to battle against foes. The game has some style, but it may not be enough to hold your attention for the long term.

Story Time

Before your adventure begins, you have the option to choose between a male or female avatar character who acts as the leader of your monster girl party. This specific character does not participate in battles but serves as a dialogue character. Throughout the game, you will encounter other unique characters, such as a busty fortune teller, who unfortunately do not become playable characters but instead contribute to the game’s dialogue.

The game is set in a vibrant fantasy world where magic and roaming monsters exist, and your goal is to prevent the rise of the Demon Lord. It has a lighthearted tone with elements of comedy and fanservice for players to enjoy. The dialogue between characters is presented in a visual graphic novel style, similar to many role-playing games like Disgaea. However, the dialogue and plot may feel somewhat underwhelming, and players may not miss much by fast-fowarding through each dialogue scenario.

The progression of Autobattler’s story is based on a board game style, where players move forward to engage in battles. In between battles, you can collect rewards and prepare your party.

Prepare Them for Battle

The game provides players with a collection of anime-styled monmusu girls (monster girls) that can be included in their battle lineup. To acquire more girls, players will need to spend in-game currency or chest rewards in the game’s gacha system. The game offers a variety of rewards to help players get started. Whenever you pull the same character, the game rewards you with additional points that can be used to upgrade your existing character and boost their stats. This is a good deal for many.

There are certain characters available for purchase with real money, typically priced at less than $5 USD, but the idea of spending with real money may discourage some players. However, the game itself is free-to-play, so there will be some areas where payment is required if you want something specific or more chances to pull. With such a wide selection of monster girls to choose from, players shouldn’t have to worry about spending real money.

Before entering battles, players have the option to arrange their lineup, equip their characters with the best gear for optimal stats, and level them up using jewels obtained after battles and other activities. Players can have up to eight characters in their battle lineup, but to reach this maximum, their avatar character must reach level twenty. It’s not difficult to obtain if you are playing through the game’s story mode.

Players can also utilize the game’s auto-equip feature to quickly place the best equipment on their active monster girls. Equipment can increase levels, similar to how characters can level up, but require different jewel currencies.

Put ‘Em Up

Battles in this game are automatic once they begin, allowing users to sit back and watch. If things get rough, you may need to restart the battle or choose to quit. Some events require multi-battles, with no break in between. These can also be set to auto so you do not have to confirm after each one. While the setup is simple, gameplay can become repetitive as your main role is to set up the best party before battle. Some characters have unique features that may help the team more in tougher battles such as healing or heavier attack power. Mix and match to win your match.

At the top of the screen, there is a battle gauge that acts like a tug-of-war. The side that takes over the over half wins. If you find yourself struggling, you’ll need to power up your team rather than later and you may need to find other ways outside the story mode to do so.

There are other ways to earn jewel currencies to strengthen your party without needing to claim rewards or progress through the story. Autobattler offers additional game modes, from online competitions to endless battles. In Abyssal Ascent, you can play endless battles until your party is wiped out or fails to finish a battle within the time limit. After completing chapter one, you can go quite far in these battles. While they may take some time, you can leave the game running in the background and come back later to collect the rewards.

Vibrant Eye Candy

Each monster girl in Monmusu Girls: Autobattler is uniquely designed and serves as eye candy for many players. This is the game’s best selling point, showcasing illustrations of these monster girls. The world within the game is filled with bright colors, and the user interface (UI) is simple and easy to understand. The music is generally good, though it does glitch for a second during transitions to battle.

While the game is currently only available for PC, it has the potential to expand to smartphones and even Nintendo Switch consoles if the developers choose to do so. Making the game available on more devices would increase its visibility showcasing its unique designs and autobattle concept.

The Final Auto Battle

Monmusu Girls: Autobattler is visually charming with its anime-style monster girls and autobattle mechanics. However, the short bursts of playing as these characters are more suited for short-term enjoyment rather than a long-term experience.
