It’s official. The classic Game Boy Advance versions of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen announced to release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch consoles, after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents beginning Friday, February 27, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. PST / 9:00 am EST. Rumors have swirled around the internet but have came true this morning. Official details if the game will work with the Pokémon Home app to come later.
About Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen
Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version were originally released for Game Boy Advance in 2004, and this Nintendo Switch release will contain much of the same Kantonian charm. Players will be able to revisit the classic story and Pokémon of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue with the updated graphics you know and love, complete with the excitement of the Sevii Islands introduced in Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version. Players can also look forward to trading Pokémon, battling each other, and more using local communication.
Both versions are set at a retail price of $19.99 USD for each version. The game is not set to release on the Nintendo Switch Online Classic Library to play for free with subscription. Fans can pre-order the Pokémon FireRed Version on the Nintendo eShop and/or the Pokémon LeafGreen on the Nintendo eShop.
Nintendo has released new info on their website regarding the functionality of the upcoming release of the GBA versions. Here are some of the cliff notes:
- No physical releases
- Content is the same as the original Game Boy Advance version
- Nintendo Switch Online is not required
- Trades and battles are done through local wireless connection
- Online play is not supported
