Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is the latest collection of Mega Man games from Capcom. The set includes all seven games from the Mega Man Star Force series that were originally released on the Nintendo DS console in the mid to late 2000s.

For those who remember, many of these games have the same gameplay but with adjustments. For example, Pegasus, Dragon, and Leo in the first Mega Man Star Force title each have different bosses and stats in the “Brother Band”. It’s a similar style to Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, where the gameplay and story are the same but small variations in each version. In this collection, you get to play three mainline series games that carry variations, making a total of seven games. Fans of the series will still enjoy this collection and the convenience of having them on modern consoles without having to search for them and cough up the cash for them.

Mega Time!

The game’s story revolves around 11-year-old Geo Stelar, who, in the first game, goes through mourning the disappearance of his astronaut father. One evening, Geo receives a powerful electric shock through his Transer, where he meets an alien with an electromagnetic wave body called Omega-Xis. The two combine to create a new hero, Mega Man, to fight off evil that invades Earth. Each game continues the story after the events from the previous game entry. Players can jump into each entry without worrying too much about all the story details as the gameplay itself remains the same.

The gameplay mechanics mostly stay the same in all entries, where you’ll battle enemies on a three-dimensional plane on a 3×5 grid. Mega Man can move left-to-right with his back exposed to the player and is located in the row closest to the screen. Depending on the enemy, they’ll move to different squares to shoot projectiles or launch close-range attacks at Mega Man. With a set of battle cards, you can initiate various powers to take down foes easier, add status ailments, or heal yourself. When you return to battle, players will have to wait until the Custom Gauge refills before grabbing more cards. It’s a different style of Mega Man than previous titles, and for those looking for a Mega Man experience with role-playing mechanics, you’ll find this collection an interesting pickup.

Mega Upgrade!

Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection will be receiving improvements to the games with visual upgrades, including high-definition (HD) art that can be seen in card selection and mugshots in dialogue boxes. The visuals have been enhanced for HD screens, but players have the option to revert to the original graphics or customize certain visuals to be in original or HD. The collection offers interesting visual settings that provide a variety of adjustments for players to utilize in their gameplay. Players can adjust the two window screens, with the option to choose from three different layouts: Top/Bottom, Left/Right, or Vertical. In the Vertical layout, both screens are the same size, while in the other two layouts, players can adjust the position and size of the smaller screen. Additionally, players can alter the resize speed for the Top/Bottom and Left/Right layouts.

Quality of life features have been added to give players more control over how they want the game to run. For example, players can choose to turn health point (HP) recovery on or off, or guarantee escapes in battle instead of taking a gamble. Auto Saves are also included in the collection. Overall, Capcom has provided a great amount of adjustments to make players feel comfortable while playing.

The Legacy Collection also includes additional features such as a gallery for artwork, music, and cards. From original tracks to new additions, this latest collection carries over similar features as previous Mega Man Collections. The game also offers online features, which will be explored more in our review later on.

Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection offers a variety of features that make it easier for both newcomers and returning players to enjoy. With quality of life improvements, additional settings, and more, it’s a must-play for any Mega Man fan.
