Collector’s Cove is a cozy farming simulation game where players cultivate their floating farm, carried across the seas by a large, friendly animal. It’s a relaxing experience with wonderful music, but it does become repetitive the longer you play.
Take it All In

At first glance, Collector’s Cove invites players into a relaxing farming experience aboard their own boat, exploring the open ocean to discover islands and collect resources. Though it has beautiful visuals and wonderful music, it struggles with repetitive islands, limited resources in each category, and a number of glitches. It has great potential; its beauty shows VoodooDuck, the development team, is on the right path, and with additional updates that expand the game’s creativity and content, it has a lot of potential to evolve into a much more engaging game since the foundation is already present.
With one of the most impressive night skies for a farming sim game, with uninhibited views, it allows a full and awe-inspiring visual. Shooting stars and seeing the open water is very well done. Coupled with the bright, vibrant, and beautiful islands you explore along with your customizable, cute companion animal, this game knocks it out of the park with the visuals.
Though the creators chose to go with a limited selection of music that is rotated during different events and activities, the selections they do include are perfectly timed. The calming soundtracks enhance the relaxing atmosphere while the player is collecting resources and caring for crops and companion animals. There are not a lot of tracks, but the selections are well thought out and appropriately placed for optimal gameplay relaxation and entertainment.
Watch Your Step

Collector’s Cove gives you two camera options which include an up and down and a zoom out and zoom in, all of which are 360 degrees. Though this can be great for going around the island to explore and look behind rocks and such, there are some glitches in the game that need to be fixed. One such example is when you are closer, or too close, to let’s say a giant boulder, things on the screen disappear. This isn’t necessarily uncommon with the camera view points compared to other games, but what jumps out is when your head disappears and you just see your neck.
That is not the only glitch in the game, as players will sometimes try to go a path that is clearly wide enough to go down, but the creators have decided it’s not a path they want you to take, so you are blocked or even sometimes get stuck in the space. This isn’t consistent either, because sometimes the path that you are meant to take is smaller than the other space, so the creators have clearly put more time into this area of the game than some other areas.
Another issue with the game is they reuse islands further in the game. Not just occasionally, but enough to notice it in the first 20 hours of gameplay. Very little is changed on the island, and in the early stages it seems that nothing at all has changed from one island to another of the identical kind.
Some aspects of the game are unclear and need more guidance. Early on, the character’s uncle shares some tips which are helpful, but as you progress it’s unclear what goals there are and/or how to reach that goal. This makes it seem like the game is just collecting and growing with no idea how to reach the next step.
Time passes fast, which means you don’t have to wait as long for your crops to grow. Additionally, something that doesn’t appear to have an impact on your energy (though it fast forwards your day) is sleeping. You can do in game play at any hour of the day or night without any noticeable consequences like other games in the same genre. In fact, fishing is encouraged at night for certain kinds of fish.
One area that is a nice bonus compared to other farming games is the resources you can collect by way of the plunger gun when barrels and crates float by. You can’t catch fish (it scares them away) but it’s fun to aim, attach, and pull in these resources. It wasn’t clear early on when you’d know when to start gathering, but eventually it was realized that the flashing barrel square on the screen is the indicator. It’s pretty slow paced, so you don’t need to rush right away to get the resources, but keep an eye out for that flashing barrel.
The Final Voyage
Overall, Collector’s Cove has a solid foundation and beautiful designs. With updates to expand the story depth and resources, and glitch fixes, it has the potential to evolve into a great game. It is a wonderful start for VoodooDuck.
