MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a uniquely styled, first-person shooter that stands on its own.
Its art style pops out and grabs your attention, playing off that rubber-hose art style you see in the 1930s era of cartoons. It features a significant amount of detail that enhances the cartoon style, making the game stand out even more. The game is set in a noir era, with black-and-white colors and a crime drama storyline along with an energetic jazz soundtrack. Voice acting itself is excellent and adds character to the “colorful” cast.

You play as detective Jack Pepper in Mouseburg, investigating the disappearance of an old war buddy, Steve Bandel. You’ll play in a first-person view and use creative weapons to attack your enemies. The gameplay features a style similar to shooter games like DOOM. While playing, there are many activities occurring on the scene, creating fast-paced gameplay. If you aren’t keeping up with the action, expect to see the game over screen in minutes, despite having repetitive encounters.
As you play, you encounter puzzle-solving scenarios, though some of the puzzles you go through aren’t too deep and could use a little more difficulty. Clearing objectives feels rewarding when uncovering secrets and accomplishing activities.
Overall, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a unique indie shooter game that fits your library if you enjoy first-person shooters. It may not win everyone’s heart, but it’s a creative game to explore.
