Each mobile device is unique in its own way. Some require more steps than others. Below are instructions that have been tested and worked for iPhone, Samsung, and other Android devices.
Steps on Setting up Animated Wallpapers for iPhone (6s and up)
You will need to download two apps (free):
- Google Drive (recommend but requires a gmail account): or Documents by Readdle
- intoLive
- Save video to your device by either using Google Drive or Documents by Readdle.
- Open intoLive and select the video you just downloaded. The app will automatically set up you need. No need to adjust timeframe.
- Select “Key Photo” located at the bottom and choose the last frame. This will be your still graphic when the video is not playing.
- Tap “Make” button, located at the top right corner and select “no repeat”.
- Tap “Save Live Photos,” located at the bottom of the screen (an ad may pop but close it if it appears).
- Your Live Photo is saved! Go to the Settings app and tap “wallpaper,” then “Choose a New Wallpaper.”
- Select “Live Photos” and select the video you just converted.
- Adjust size if needed, make sure “Live Photo” is still selected.
- Touch “Set” and you are done! You now have an animated wallpaper for your iPhone!
You can delete the video file when done. You may also remove the two apps if you no longer have any more wallpapers you wish to download.
Advice: You can share Live Photos between other iOS users. However, if you upload Live Photos to a server such as Google Photos, the animation will be stripped away.
Steps on Setting up Animated Wallpapers for Samsung Phones

Steps on Setting up Animated Wallpapers for Other Android Phones
You’ll need to download the Video Live Wallpaper app (free) at Google Play.
- Save video file to device.
- Most Android devices, go to the wallpaper menu by pressing the menu button on the home screen. Otherwise visit your wallpaper settings on your device.
- An option to “Set Live Wallpaper” should be available to set a video as your mobile background, tap on it.
- Select your video. If looks good, tap “Set wallpaper” and done! You now have an animated wallpaper for your Android device!
Note #1: Some Android devices may not let you playback videos larger than your phone’s resolution. We highly suggest you download the appropriate resolution size or a smaller resolution video for your device.
Note #2: Some Android devices will not let you use the video for lock screen, only home screen. This may be due to limitations to the device itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why does Apple not let me download videos without an app?
A: Apple has a “unique” standard on saving files outside of photos. To bypass Apple’s strict rules, a third-party app such as Google Drive or Documents is necessary to download the file.
Q: Why can’t Apple let me use MP4 as a wallpaper?
A: Apple has created a gif-like file that uses JPG and video combined called Live Photo. Live Photo uses the JPG extension but only iOS devices can read them. With that, they never opened the door on utilizing videos as wallpapers.
Q: Will you update the instructions if something changes?
A: Yes. If Android or Apple follows the same steps as Samsung, we’ll make the modification to these instructions.
Q: The app doesn’t work. Can you fix it?
A: Unfortunately, we do not control how the app works. We suggest try and use a different MP4 video and if that still doesn’t work, report the issue to the app’s developers.
