For those who aren’t aware, March 10th has been called “Mario Day”, Mar10. Get it? Got it? Good. To celebrate, Google has added a neat little easter egg in the Google Maps app for Android and iOS to celebrate Mario Day. Mario will be available in the Google Maps app as a position marker.
Once you start, Mario will drive along with you, an entertaining event for Nintendo fans. Users will also see a “?” block icon before starting the navigation. Hit it 100 times and you’ll get a 1-UP sound clip, a nice addition for Nintendo fans. You can share a screenshot of your route to @GoogleMaps on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #MarioMaps. Please be aware not to share personal info such as your home and work.
For something like this, you would expect this to be an April Fools event, similar to the Pac-Man on streets last year. Also, Google and Nintendo has collaborated on an April Fool’s prank with launching Google Maps in 8-bit style. We would love to see Mario return as a GPS guide in the future but that’s up to Nintendo and Google on an agreement. For now, enjoy this collaborated event!
The event will last for one week, worldwide, users will want to give this a Mario-go! At least you shouldn’t need to worry about those colored shells and bananas on the road, especially the blue shells if you are in 1st place. Users can download Google Maps right now for Android and iOS.
