Since Pokémon GO, there’s been more and more location-based AR games have been coming out of the woodwork. Now that Google has opened the gates of its Maps platform to developers and Apple and Google’s AR kits are becoming useful, games such as the recently announced Walking Dead: Our World and Jurassic World Alive have become a reality. However this is only the beginning.
Sony Pictures is working with Korean mobile game studios 4:33 and Next Age to bring Ghostbusters World to mobile devices. The game will play very similar to Pokémon GO‘s mechanics. Instead of throwing Poké balls, you are using your proton pack to capture ghosts. There are four different proton packs, each with a different power strength, similar to the different types of Poké balls.
Based from the demo played by multiple reports, you can hatch Ectoplasms, just like Pokémon GO‘s eggs. Seems a bit weird. There’ll be a story in the game which is written by the writers of the Ghostbusters comics from IDW publishing. You can say this is a Pokémon GO but with ghosts instead. While apparently the demo that was at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) didn’t have raid battles, we’re going to assume that’ll be available since the game does have an in-game chat functionality.
Would you play a Pokémon GO game with a Ghostbusters brand over it? Ghostbusters World will be available later in the year on iOS and Android devices. You can view the some screenshots and the announcement trailer below. You can also visit the official site for future details.
