Metroid Prime 4 development was well underway until Nintendo has made a surprising announcement regarding the game. Updates regarding the newest Metroid game has been quiet since the announcement at E3 2017. A special video from senior managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi has made details regarding the game’s development. Due to the performance of the game’s progress, Nintendo has decided to “restart development from the beginning” and will have Retro Studios take over development.
Retro Studios originally development the Metroid Prime trilogy and the latest two Donkey Kong Country games. For Nintendo to scrap years of work was not an easy decision for the company. Fans may not be thrilled with the announcement but quality is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Ideally, Nintendo could possibly have the Metroid Prime trilogy on the Switch sometime before the fourth installment? Don’t hold your breathe but would be a nice surprise after this announcement. You can watch the official announcement from Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi below.
You can expect Metroid Prime 4 to be delayed for at least a year but that’s okay. Take your time on making a fantastic game Nintendo.
