With a vast amount of design choices available, Nintendo Switch owners will at least own a second pair of Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers. That means a whole lot of recharging, especially when the default options are less than ideal. Thankfully, PowerA’s officially licensed Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controller Charging Dock is a great accessory for Switch owners to have.

Charge Options

The Joy-Con and Pro Controller Charging Dock gives you a couple ways to charge. You can use either the power outlet, or save a plug and insert the USB cable into the Nintendo Switch’s dock. You’ll most likely have many accessories and consoles plugged into your power strip, making it an easy choice to use the Switch’s dock.

For the charging time, expect at least three hours to get a solid amount of gaming time with the controllers. Definitely recommended to dock before you leave your console alone for hours if you’ve completely drained the power.

You can charge both Joy-Cons and one Pro Controller with the charging dock or either type separately. The Joy-Cons slide right in, similar to how you attach your Joy-Cons to the Nintendo Switch. The Pro Controller has a USB-C dongle that’s attached to the top. Attach it and dock it to charge. The dongle can be easily lost, though, since it’s small. While you can still play your games with the piece attached, you may need it to charge an additional controller. Also, be sure to keep the piece away from the fickle hands (and mouths) of children.

A suggestion for future upgrades to the charging dock: Have the dongle attached to the dock itself. To dock a Pro Controller, for example, one would flip the attached dongle piece up, dock the controller, then flip the USB-C attachment down to charge. Doing it this way would prevent any pieces from being lost.

Presentable with Style

The size of the charging dock is comparable to the Nintendo Switch’s dock in terms of length, making the dock placed next to your console appear natural and organized. For now, the charging dock has three different styles from which to choose: Mario, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and solid black. Unless you specifically dislike black or red, there isn’t a bad design among them.

The Final Charge

PowerA’s Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controller Charging Dock is a highly recommended accessory. Having the option to charge both Joy-Cons and Pro Controller simultaneously is welcoming, especially when you can plug the charging dock into your Nintendo Switch’s dock. Plus, with three styles available, there’s a design for everybody. In short, spend less time recharging and more time gaming.
