If you are a few players that are still hanging onto Super Mario Maker for the Wii U, Nintendo has some bad news for you. After five years, players will no longer be able to upload new courses from the Wii U game after March 2021. The level maker game brought a big impact to the Wii U since it was first introduced at E3 2014. It was one of the few games that made the Wii U console shine and with a sequel already on the Nintendo Switch, it’s not surprising Nintendo would shutdown services for the first Mario Maker.

Players won’t be able to visit the Super Mario Maker Bookmark website. Additionally the game will no longer be available to purchase on the eShop starting January 12, 2021. Those who try to visit the bookmark or upload courses will receive an error message. Players can still redownload the game after its removal from the Nintendo eShop.

The shutdown will have no impact on the Super Mario Maker 2 game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Maker for Wii U shutdowns its service after March 31, 2021.
