Updated 01/23/21 at 1am ET: Microsoft reversed their decision on increasing their Xbox Live Gold prices and will continue to support the original prices along with the 12 month service for $59.99 USD.

Microsoft announces a price increase for their Xbox Live Gold subscription since starting its service 18 years ago. If you’re already grandfathered in for 12 months, nothing changes. Once subscription ends, you’ll be paying for the new prices. Here’s what each plan will soon cost:

  • 1 month: $10.99 USD (before $9.99 USD)
  • 3 months: $29.99 USD (before $24.99 USD)
  • 6 months: $59.99 USD (before $39.99 USD)

Microsoft removed its 12 month subscription last year on their store front. However, you can still purchase the 12 month subscription (for now) at $59.99 USD on Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop. You can only stack these subscriptions up to 3 years. Xbox Live Gold is not like Microsoft’s new Ultimate Games Pass, which is its own subscription. This move could be a way to push players to jump on their Ultimate Games Pass.

PlayStation did a similar move with increasing their online service cost but has not removed its 12 month service like Microsoft. Will you still be using Xbox Live Gold with these new prices?
