Pretty Girls Klondike Solitaire for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 takes the classic card game and combines it with cute anime girls (waifus). If you’ve played or read our review of Delicious! Pretty Girls Mahjong Solitaire, it’s very similar but with different waifus and as a card game. Both games were developed and published by the same teams. However, this solitaire title feels like a lighter package.

Pleasing! Card Game

Players who enjoy a decorative layout with anime girls should enjoy their time with Pretty Girls Klondike Solitaire. The game is simple and doesn’t need much explanation of how it works. First, players play their cards into a sequence to build a foundation, from king down to the ace. At the same time and to win, there’s a stack of four placements to build the foundation from ace to king. Complete all four foundations and you win.

There are three difficulties to choose from before playing: easy, normal, hard. Easy mode lets players choose a card from a pile deck to help build their foundation packs. This option gives a high winning percentage. If you run into an issue you cannot solve, the game gives you a set of limited hints, one-time shuffle cards that are not used, and the ability to reveal a card under a deck. The hints are great if you are learning to play but are not very useful if you are a veteran of the game. Shuffle helps greatly to win, whereas revealing a card doesn’t feel very useful unless you are looking for a specific one.

In normal and hard modes, players are given a set of three cards from their pile deck. Each time you pick from the deck, a new set of three cards appears. You’ll go through the stock faster as your chances of winning decreases. Additionally, there are no hints, shuffles, or card reveals. You are on your own to win. Hard mode sets cards in a lower percentage of winning. Players can easily go thirty minutes in and not win a game. It’s a brutal mode for card playing and if you like a challenge, have at it. To unlock costumes and characters, you don’t need to win in either hard or normal mode.

For score-keeping, the game records your best time in each mode. Unfortunately, there’s no online leaderboard like its sister mahjong game. It’s a confusing omission since both games are developed by the same team.

Lovely! Fan Service

What’s a waifu game without its fan service? In Pretty Girls Klondike Solitaire, you’ll meet ten (two hidden) pretty anime women who await you, one per board. Clear the board, and you’ll unlock new outfits for your female companions. These new outfits can be viewed in the game’s Dressing Room mode. There’s not much else to it. When in the Dressing Room mode, you can zoom in and out on the character. It’s more eye candy than anything else, but that’s why you’re here, right?

After playing for two hours, players can unlock all waifus and their outfits. With no DLC or any other bonus content, it feels like a lighter package compared to Delicious! Pretty Girls Mahjong Solitaire. Still, with the game costing just $5.99 USD, it’s hard to pass up a puzzle game like Klondike Solitaire.

Unlovable! Cursor Control

Whether you’re playing on the Switch or on the PlayStation consoles, using the game’s default cursor can be a chore. While picking individual cards gives you a large area to select, grabbing a stack of cards can be a problem. The area you can select is quite small, making the stack difficult to grab, especially given your cursor’s size and its movement. Sure, you can use the Switch’s touchscreen to easily use your fingers as the cursor, but most players won’t have that option. While it may not ruin the game, it creates a problem for your flow when creating combos to add points to your scores. At the very least, the cards themselves are at a larger scale compared to the small tiles from mahjong. That alone makes it easier to play on a larger screen or if you’re playing on the Switch’s handheld mode.

Also, players may notice a bug once in a while with a card in their deck. When attempting to select a card to move it on the board, the game acts like the card doesn’t exist. To get around this glitch, players will have to go through the rest of the deck and come back to it for it to be selectable again. It’s an annoying nuisance, and hopefully a patch can take care of it.

Charming! The Final Card

Pretty Girls Klondike Solitaire is a simple game given a little extra flavor by way of pretty anime girls. It won’t hold your attention for long, but it’s good to play every so often. Now, go check out those waifus!
