President and CEO of Square Enix, Takashi Kiryu, announced that Final Fantasy XIV is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026 during the latest keynote of the online game.
Players playing Final Fantasy XIV for the first time on the Nintendo Switch 2 are required to purchase the game for the console, along with a subscription fee. Like the PlayStation version, players do not need the Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play Final Fantasy XIV, just the subscription from Square Enix itself. However, if you are already playing the game on another platform, players will still need to purchase a separate subscription for the Switch 2. If you have remaining game time on other platforms, the Nintendo Switch 2 subscription will be available at half price.
While the details for the Nintendo Switch 2 are not out yet, players can visit the official product page to get an idea on cost and character amount per account and server. Future and past announcements can be read on the official Final Fantasy XIV website.
